Originally a split from UMP (former name of the right-wing party “Les Républicains” (LR)), it became a stand-alone party in 2008 and was renamed in 2014. It was founded by Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, still heading the party today. It is a conservative and nationalist party advocating for the sovereignty of France, opposing immigration and EU regulations. At the first round of the 2017 presidential elections, it received 4,7% of the votes. A 2019 internal crisis however caused the leave of members and executives from the party, joining the Rassemblement National instead for many, significantly decreasing its importance.
