Democracia Nacional (DN) is a Spanish extreme right-wing political party, 1 created in 1995, without parliamentary representation. He is a member of the Alliance for Peace and Freedom.
In 1995, Democracia Nacional (DN) was presented, the first party of extreme Spanish right wing trying to resemble its European counterparts.
DN brought together well-known fascist and neo-Nazi militants from formations such as Radical Action (AR), Spanish Juntas or the neo-Nazi Spanish Circle of Friends of Europe (CEDADE). He defined himself as a social patriot and had the support by Jean-Marie Le Pen. In 1994, a year before its founding as DN, the project had been submitted to the European elections under the name of National Democratic Alternative, with which he obtained 4,683 votes (0.03%).
In 1999 they would again compete in the European elections under the name of DN, in which he got only 8,053 votes. A year later, DN formed part of the Spain2000 Platform candidacy (not to be confused with the España2000 party, which would be registered later). This platform joint movement of the Spanish extreme right was a unique experiment that managed to unite the different Spanish neo-fascist groups, an unprecedented milestone that has not been repeated. Although there have been pacts specific, less plural coalitions or events in which they have participated practically all of these groups have never managed to park again the smallest differences to build a far-right party the only one that brings everyone together.
DN would achieve three councilors in 2007 in two small towns in Castilla: two in Herradón de Pinares (Ávila) and one in Tardajos (Burgos), where would agree with the PP. In 2013 he participated in the La España en Marcha (LEM) coalition together with the Nudo Patriota Español (NPE), the Movimiento Católico Español(MCE) and the neo-Nazi party Alianza Nacional (AN). In the municipal elections of 2015 would only get a councilor in Cuenca de Campos (Valladolid), but currently training it does not have representatives in any institution.
From 2019 to the present, DN forms part of the ADÑ Identidad Española coalition, together with Falange Española de las JONS, La Falange and Alternativa Española (AES).
DN’s campaigns have focused primarily on immigration, the unity of Spain and the rejection of Islam and Muslims. In 2007 they led carry out an intense campaign against immigration, copying a poster used by a far-right Swiss party, under the motto “Behave or get out! Against high crime rates of foreigners”, with three white sheep kicking a black one. In the frame of this campaign call for different events, including a demonstration in the multicultural Usera neighborhood of Madrid, with the slogan «Against the anti-Spanish racism, against immigration». Josué Estébanez, a neo-Nazi soldier, attended this demonstration, who met the young anti-racist Carlos Palomino on the subway ride, whom he murdered, a crime for which he was convicted to 26 years in jail. DN initially disassociated himself from the murder, but years later, with the murderer convicted, he campaigned for his freedom with the phrase “defending your life is not a crime.”
DN has historically been led by Manuel Canduela Serrano, a former member of the neo-Nazi organization Acción Radical (AR) of Valencia, disbanded in 1995, and singer of the anti-communist rock group (RAC) División250. Canduela led the party until September 2018, year in which he would announce his resignation. He temporarily replaced Pedro Chaparro, until the celebration of its XI National Congress scheduled for July 2019. Chaparro announced a month before the congress that he did not he would present himself as a candidate to lead the party. Also, Chaparro has been sentenced for threatening the photojournalist Jordi Borràs and for the assault on the Blanquerna bookstore in Madrid on September 11, 2013.
Luis Mateos was elected national secretary of the party in congress held in July 2019 after the failure of the ADÑ coalition in the European elections, in which they only obtained 11,798 votes. Chaparro was then elected secretary general. The head of the youth section is Pablo Lucini.
DN has historically enjoyed good relations with European neo-fascists parties such as the German NDP, the English BNP, Jobbik Hungarian or Forza Nuova from Italy. He is currently part of the Alliance for Peace and Freedom chaired by Roberto Fiore, from the Italian FN.
As of 2020, these political parties have agreed that they will only stand in municipal elections where they have the possibility of obtaining representation, in other elections they do not stand.
